06:48 pm - Chili shock No - not what you think.
When preparing to cook dinner I decided to use one of my frozen homegrown chilies and that giving it a few seconds in the microwave at the defrosting program would thaw it up nicely. Well a second after turning the microwave on bright sparks and matching sounds lit up the microwave (in proper mythbusters style) shocking the hell out of me - after a few seconds I decided to risk turning it off rather than letting it run it's final 15 secs.
I turned it back on after removing the chili and nothing... Gotta wonder what the hell is in a homegrown chili that makes it able to create bright audible sparks in a microwave...

07:02 pm - Help me spell my star wars name So at Jacob and Maikens birthday we tried out the Star Wars trivial pursuit - which turned out to have not so many absurdly obscure questions as I had imagined, but which did reveal some very fucked up strange names. I too came up with a good name - or well it sounds great but when I try to spell it it looks wrong, so I need help getting it to look good on paper (internetpaper...) as well.
The name is Pud (pronounced as the first part of pudding) Flubu (flu is pronounced like the illness and bu is pronouced like booh).
So I need suggestions as to how best to spell it: Pud, Pood, Puhd, suggestions? Flubu, Flubuh, Fluhbu, Fluhbuh, Phlubu, Phlubuh, suggestions?
It also needs to look good after Master, as in "Impressive but he's no Master Flubu..."
42! Now I just need the Star Wars MMORG to come out or someone to run a Star Wars oneshot!

09:07 pm - Zombieland This is good clean family entertainment you can trust!
Okay not so much clean as somewhat splattery and some girls may not appreciate the gory violent bits but it''s still damn good fun. It has a cool guy, a nerdy guy you can relate to, a hot girl, an unannoying kid and a surprise star who is just damn funny. Oh and lots and lots of fun and cool zombie takedowns.

03:06 pm - Random stuff Got the new Rammstein cd "Liebe ist für alle da" today and it sounds pretty good. Thankfully it's mainly a return to their hardcore stuff, which is what they definitely do best. :-)
Oh and the votes are in and the all time greatest video game hero is: Mr. Freeman

I really like that. Gordon and his trusty crowbar is definitely a favorite of mine - though I was also hoping for Cloud Strife (as in my current image), as I'm a final fantasy fanboy.

10:09 am - The men who stare at goats! http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/themenwhostareatgoats/
What a funky premise - but it looks pretty funny: :-)
In this quirky dark comedy inspired by a real life story you will hardly believe is actually true, astonishing revelations about a top-secret wing of the U.S. military come to light when a reporter encounters an enigmatic Special Forces operator on a mind-boggling mission. Reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady (Academy Award®winner George Clooney), a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit. According to Cassady, the New Earth Army is changing the way wars are fought. A legion of “Warrior Monks” with unparalleled psychic powers can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it. Now, the program’s founder, Bill Django (Oscar® nominee Jeff Bridges), has gone missing and Cassady’s mission is to find him. Intrigued by his new acquaintance’s far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to accompany him on the search. When the pair tracks Django to a clandestine training camp run by renegade psychic Larry Hooper (two-time Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey), the reporter is trapped in the middle of a grudge match between the forces of Django’s New Earth Army and Hooper’s personal militia of super soldiers. In order to survive this wild adventure, Bob will have to outwit an enemy he never thought possible. The Men Who Stare at Goats was inspired by Jon Ronson’s non-fiction bestseller of the same name, an eye-opening and often hilarious exploration of the government’s attempts to harness paranormal abilities to combat its enemies.

04:59 pm - District 9 What a cool movie this is! :-)
It has a nice interesting/unusual setting (putting segregated aliens in Johannesburg), a nicely lowkey approach to sci.fi and a combination of documentary and actual movie that works really well. Not going to spoil the plot - especially if all you know about this movie is from the trailers - as part of the fun in watching this movie is not really knowing what the hell it's about (it gets easier to predict as it goes by, but that's to be expected).
It's so nice to see something that's decidedly not hollywood with no famous actors or traditional hollywood tropes.

07:51 pm - George Lucas - eat your heart out! The latest cinematic for the forthcoming Star Wars - The Old Republic MMORG is incredible! It's 4 minutes of insanely well animated hard-core jedi action and you almost wish they'd scrap the game and just make a movie if they could keep this quality (though not very likely and I'd really like to play the game...)!

12:54 pm - Touch of... Life or Death?
The next few weeks will show which one I possess.
I've replanted (put in a bigger pot...) my 3 small chiliplants and now we'll see if I have killed them in the process or somehow miraculously given them better growing conditions. Right off the bat they look a bit limp after the procedure but hopefully the new soil and growth medium will help ensure lots and lots of chilis come august-september (and hopefully this year ;-P).
I have absolutely no experience with plants and am just going by what I seem to remember from what my parents did when I was living at home... Which is ofcourse the reason why I've bought 3 plants so that if even one survives it would have been a success.
I'm hoping that at least two survives since I've bought various strength chilis and would love to test the difference. I've bought two plants with strength 5 and one with strength 8 (5 is something like Tabasco and Cayenne and 25-50.000 scovilles while 8 is somewhere between 100-250.000 scovilles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville_scale ).
Luckily Bowman bought 4 plants and we gave Jackob one as well so if everything goes wrong I should hopefully be able to taste some of theirs (and if we all succeed in cultivating them it'll be chilis as entres, main course and desert for months ;-) ).

09:43 pm - Star Trek Oh My Gods!
The new movie is made of purest awesome!
This is the best reboot I've seen. The cast is incredibly well chosen, the action is both oldschool Star Trek and very modern, indeed the whole film is a fantastic mix of modern sci-fi-action with the old series feel.
I had high expectations and it blew me far further away than I could have imagined! :-D
I'm soooo going back to the theater as soon as at all possible!

06:56 pm - Sounds of the universe - updated I was really really looking forward to Depeche Modes new record (Sounds of the universe) but after the first listen-through I must admit I'm utterly disappointed...
Of the 13 songs only 2 really seemed to stand out, one was decent but the rest just didn't catch me - it's not that they are bad songs, they just lack something, a lot of something...
I'm hoping the record will grow on me when I listen to it some more, but right now I'm so disappointed that I don't expect it to. :-(
42!
Update: I've listened to it some more - and in a less intense way than the first time around - and the music in the record is starting to grow on me, I still feel a lot of the lyrics or the way they are performed are rather weak lacking either the usual dark edge or the technopop feel that DM does so well.
I guess it's not a record you can lose yourself in but it does seem ok as mood or background music - unfortunately this means only a few of the songs seem like concert material to me.
Wrong is still by far the best song of the album, followed by Peace which is a strange pop-song that just works for me somehow. Several other songs are "saved" by the edge music but there are still too many soft uninteresting songs.
Still disappointed, but not quite as much. Current Mood: disappointed

More on SOTU

Found lyrics as well - which only makes it better:
Wrong x 4
I was born with the wrong sign in the wrong house with the wrong ascendancy I took the wrong road that led to the wrong tendencies I was in the wrong place at the wrong time For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme On the wrong day of the wrong week Used the wrong method with the wrong technique
Wrong x 2
There’s something wrong with me Chemically Something wrong with me Inherently The wrong mix in the wrong genes I reached the wrong ends by the wrong means It was the wrong plan in the wrong hands The wrong theory for the wrong man The wrong lies, on the wrong prize The wrong questions with the wrong replies
Wrong x2
I was marching to the wrong drum with the wrong scum pissing out the wrong energy Using all the wrong lines and the wrong signs with the wrong intensity I was on the wrong page of the wrong book With the wrong rendition of the wrong hook Made the wrong move, every wrong night With the wrong tune played till it sounded right yeah
Wrong x2
Too long ... Wrong x2
Too Long
I was born with the wrong sign In the wrong house With the wrong ascendancy I took the wrong road That led to the wrong tendencies I was in the wrong place at the wrong time For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme On the wrong day of the wrong week Used the wrong method with the wrong technique
